VOICE OF EYE :: BIOGRAPHY

The music of TAOS, New Mexico's VOICE OF EYE is as formless and ambiguous as it is evocative. Using only handmade and acoustic instruments (no samplers/synthesizers), VOICE OF EYEs beautifully dense and atmospherically-charged work summons shadowy, obscure , and ancient spirits. Their recent releases include Transmigration, which is a meditation on the Bardo, the intermediate state between life and death as described in the Tibetan Book Of The Dead. They have also been active in collaboration with the similarly-minded Arizona group LIFE GARDEN, and they've released 2 (so far) CDs of these acoustic collaborations.
Voice of Eye formed in 1991 out of the ashes of experimental bands Esoterica Landscapes 7 and Cruor. Through Voice of Eye, members Bonnie McNairn and Jim Wilson explored profound aspects of consciousness. The music is shared as a tool for entering different states of consciousness. In the beginning music was the only modality this expression assumed.
This process transformed in 1997 from the medium of music into building an off-the-grid sustainable home and studio in the high desert of New Mexico. The process would take the next ten years. The result is a complete sculptural free flowing work of art built entirely by the hands of Jim and Bonnie. It is the largest work of art either have achieved. Living in the open and empty spaces of the desert had the additional effect of deeply connecting them to the truth of their being begun through music. The desert is the fire that burns away everything. Both members are now focused on the healing arts.
Presently, Jim and Bonnie have returned to recording and performing music with a fresh perspective. Their journey has transformed what was begun through music into a way of life.
